Really like it.
Excellent product
I'm an optometrist I bought this solely out of shear nosiness. The main advantage is the arclight itself is shockingly small which actually makes it better suited to fitting within the orbit and easier to handle than other models of opthalmoscope, the view is certainly clinically acceptable at the bright LED works extremely well(did test on large pupil). Downsides are that although you can vary the dioptric power it doesn't have as many options as other models, this in all honesty isn't a criticism as your unlikely to need much of the lens ranges anyway and if your patient wears contact lenses this is much of an issue. The light settings are great and the loupe has the perfect level of magnification to see a foreign body or corneal stain and anterior assessment of the crystalline lens which makes it a great accompaniment to a paediatric exam as it is not as intimidating as a Burton lamp, It's honestly a really decent piece of kit for what you pay for, would recommend for optometrists as a "spare pair" and for paediatric exams as it has more functionality than other expensive loupes like the bluminator. If your a Dr who may need to perform opthalmoscopy it's definitely serviceable and I would recommend, that goes for veterinary practice as well although I would probably recommend a panoptic for vets as you get a bigger view when the patient won't sit still(panoptic is also 18x more expensive though so way up how often your doing opthalmoscopy!).
Absolutely solid piece of equipment would recommend
10/10.
This is a very useful device: The magnifying glass with blue light together with fluorescein staining is useful in acute cases to rule out corneal lesions. The magnifying glass is useful for evaluation of the back side of the eyelids for MGD. The attached funnel for otoscope works very fine. The other end of the stick contains an ophthalmoscope and as shown on the add with the model, the light beam is about 4 cm wide at 4 cm distance. At a minimum clinical distance about 1 cm from the eye the illumination light is 1.5 cm wide, This is much larger than the maximal pupil size, hence the contrast of the fundus background is severely diminished by reflected light from the iris and sclera making small details invisible. In patients with cataract it is absolutely useless. It lacks the features of apertures in a professional ophthalmoscope to change the size and location of the illumination light. In the next generation the width of the illumination beam should be decreased.
We trialled the arclight in a remote area of tropical Nigeria with grassroots primary care where we work. Spoilt batteries and blown bulbs are a constant hassle and the Arclight was so easy to use, simple to teach with very helpful instructions such that all our team of healthcare workers can use. The use of photos via camera allows specialist advice and it seems very robust and the solar charge /LED is spot on for humid remote regions. Great piece of kit and very good price.
