A simple and durable simulation eye for teaching and training, for use with the Arclight ophthalmoscope.
Each pack includes 5 easily swappable images of different eye conditions, printed at very high resolution on matte card.
The 5 different eye conditions are:
- Normal
- Swollen disc
- Cupped disc
- Central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO)
- Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
Comes in quick assemble kit form. The box can also be converted into a SIM ear on request, with accompanying swappable images of different ear conditions.

I’ve read other reviews prior to purchase and prepared myself for the odd loose lens. However, none of the lenses were affixed. I had to glue gun them to the case. It’s all pretty cheap materials for the cost. But again - I loved the idea and they are useful and helpful.
Just recieved my Arclight set only to find 90% of the Sim Eyes where broken. The small plastic clips used to fix the sim eye into place were broken. Very disappointed

Bought these for the midwives NIPE updates as a fun way of updating about the red reflexes. The only criticism I have is the clips that hold the lens in place break very easily so had to cellotape the lenses to the back of the sim eye otherwise they fall out. Otherwise they work brilliantly with the different coloured cards to simulate red reflexes in different ethnicities, very happy
I had trouble with my first set, as I broke off the flanges that hold the lens in place while trying to replace the lens from multiple of the simulation eyes. It is very easy for the lens to pop in and out of place, and the plastic flies is holding them in place are so fragile so pop easily if you are anything but extremely gentle. I contacted the company and they sent me out a replacement set.
This is a technique. I have figured out to avoid breakage
1. Be aware that little plastic flanges holding the lens in place are really fragile and will break very easily.
2. Place lands back carefully into the plastic flanges.
3. To avoid the flanges falling off every time you open the lid - open by squeezing in and pulling at the posterior half of the eye while eye is upside down on a flat surface. Hold lid as you pull out other half.
I have used veterinary species and pathology instead of the human ones and they work really well. I take the lid on and off a lot to rotate what is at the bottom - this will be less of a problem for people who aren’t doing this, but the lens does tend to fall out a lot in transport.
I wish they sent instructions with how to care for the eyes and replace the lenses without breakage.
These are a brilliant training tool but in spite of my best and most gentle efforts the little plastic lugs that hold the lenses in place are too fragile. On 3 out of the 5 in the pack one lug has snapped off, resulting in the lenses constantly falling out. Disappointing. If this didn’t happen they would definitely be 5/5.
Thanks very much for taking the time to leave us a review. We're glad you like the sim eyes as a training tool but sorry that some of them broke whilst you were putting them together. We can certainly send you replacement ones together with some additional guidance on assembly. We are working on providing more guidance on assembly - to preserve the plastic lugs in assembly you need to press in from the other side of the eye (outside top) with your thumb. This pushes the top in and spreads out the clips such that you can slip the lens between them and then when you release the pressure they securely hold the lens.
